Why can't both piano abd guitar be equally good. Look at jazz. Most jazz bands have a piano and guitarist. Who usually writes the music for the songs? The pianist usually writes the music, because he/she went through formally training. Guitar write music too, but I dare to find a guitarist and I've heard some of the most interesting rifts writing by guitarist that might hbe be able to done on a guitar. Then again a lot of piano riffts cannot be produced on a guitar because of the bass notes. You can also say that guitarist can have effects added to their songs to. I say look at synthesizers. Now my point is this: why not say both are equally as important. Pianist can help guitars by showing them therory and guitarist can show pianist how to improvise.

Compairing the Guitar to the Pianio is sort of like comparing apples to oranges. But in my experience as a worship leader, most pianists are classically trained as solo instruments. They often find it hard to make the transition from solo classical to ensemble work where chord sheets and the versitilty of playing by ear on the fly are more pronounced. Pianists have also been trained to play the part of all the other instuments in the ensemble (espically the base line). Certainly this is not true of all keyboard players - I have worked with some phenominal keyboardists. But I have also worked with many who have been slaves to sheet music and tend to drive the song rather than follow the flow of the ensemble leader.

For the Guitar vs. Piano comparison there is no better head to head major work than Albéniz,
Astuias Leyenda. In this case it started as a piano work but got even more fame when it was arranged for guitar. I like 'em both. Just paid up for the toolbox by the way. I'm waiting for that piano toolbox now as I don't understand the relation between many piano chords and guitar chords.

I play both and I find that the Piano can handle more complex music and is easier on your hands.

don't get me wrong the guitar has alot of complex music...but try to play Rachmaninoff sonata on a guitar >http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5QbJn_NkkM4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tu5OstYSTt4

You forgot the fact that you can play the same note in succession much faster than a piano not to mention arpeggios.

things a pianist can do that a guitarist cant
1. read more than one line of music.
2. read music
3 play vastly more notes at once.
4. play something that sounds so much better.
5. not suffer from a huge ego
i could go on forever
